I bought a 97 Rav4 as a second/backup vehicle. I went into the sale knowing it needed a PS rack. I got it all torn apart but can't get the steering column coupling loose from the rack.

I've tried everything under the sun... prybars, PB blaster, hammer blows. I've wasted hours on this coupling and I just can't do it anymore.

Anyone in Portland willing to swing by and lend a hand? Sometimes it just takes a new guy with a fresh set of patience to get it.

A few six packs will be gladly provided as compensation.

Please let me know ASAP. It's up on jack stands in the driveway with the crossmember on the ground.

Maybe try posting a picture of it and somebody might have an idea that you can try. I just bought a 2004 Rav4 and so far have been happy with it. Been looking for some good Rav forums for information on them.

Just needed a bigger hammer eh? or a chance for the pb blaster to soak in.

 

Pretty sure some gnomes visited in the middle of the night and loosened everything up for me. The next morning the coupler magically slipped off on the first try.

3 hrs of cursing and straining the day before... to 30 seconds and voila the next morning.

Glad to have this one behind me. Makes me appreciate the relative ease of working on the 4runner. They pack so much crap in these newer rides you have to remove everything to replace one thing and even then you're in some twisted pilates position with one pinky reaching the bolt you're after.
