I have redone the gaskets on my passenger hub twice now (this past time I even replaced a perfectly good dial o-ring) and it is fine for a little bit and then goes back to leaking grease every time. (usually notice it after I go through mud or water) These hubs were junkyard hubs, so I don't know there history. But I made every effort to make sure the surfaces that the gasket touched were clean, and it still leaks




Is there any way to keep these from leaking? I've given up on the driver hub and bought a brand new one because the holes for the face-plate bolts were stripped on the hub body. I'd prefer not to have to take that hit again on the passenger side.

 

I don`t even use gaskets just ultra blue Silicone

I gotta think the water is the major cause of the problem.

Are the mating surfaces of the hubs flat and true if they are warped they will leak

 

They might be warped, they came from a junkyard in California... from two different trucks. I've cleaned them thoroughly before reassembly, and they still leak after a little use.


I figured that the gaskets don't like water too much, and anywhere we wheel in Florida will have at least some water/mud.


I reckon when I redo them again after hunting season, I'll move to silicone instead of continuously buying new gaskets.


fingers crossed, maybe the new hub I got for the drivers side from Lowrange Offroad won't give me trouble.

 

I use Toy gaskets, but I have used Ultra Black with good luck. Blue stands out to much for my taste.

 

If I could get it in Hot pink I would!!

 

I'm using Toyota Gaskets, I guess silicone is my next step
