How do I remove paint from bumper and tail light?

How can I remove paint from the chrome bumper and tail light? Some wacko brushed up against me in a lot. Not too much damage, but there's all this white paint on the bumper and tail light.

Would rubbing alcohol work since I dont have to be scared about removing any paint below it?

Keep cross posting, someone is bound to answer...

(I know I know - with 218 forums to choose from, who knows where to put it so someone might actually read it...)

How about some pre-cleaner / chrome polish or polishing compound?

Acetone will damage your paint.
Acetone will seriously damage your tail light.
Not a good idea.

i've used it before on both. don't bathe them in it and there's no damage.

drench them and you're asking for trouble from ANY strong solvent.

If it's just paint that scraped off the other car, you should be able to get it off with clay or any good paint cleaner. I'd stay away from the compounds unless you have the time to work the scratches out they leave behind. I've never been a fan of harsh chemicals either.

Eithe rthe clay or the paint cleaner and some elbow grease should do the job.

guess what nail polish remover is... ACETONE... :pat:

good idea about just diluting it w/ water, and i'm glad it worked for ya.

however, is it 10 parts polish remover to 1 part water

-OR-

10 parts water to 1 part polish remover???

the way bob posted it was 10 parts polish remover to 1 part water - which barely dilutes it at all (about 9% dilution) and is basically full strength.

Steel Wool !!!

No way unless you want a zillion scratches. the only steel wool I MIGHT try is 0000 Steel Wool. Even that I'd be hesitant with.

Clay it. It'll work.
