How Do I Identify Auto Tranny in 1988 Pickup?
We have a Gulfstream RV built on a 1988 Toyota pickup. It has given us many years of travel adventures. As time goes on, I travel with more and more spare parts...just-in-case. I am interested in picking up an automatic transmission rebuild kit for it, to have on hand in case it died somewhere and a good used one could not be sourced quickly...hoping a transmission shop would be able to rebuild it without much trouble, and having the parts on hand would speed things up. Rock Auto lists several, and identifies the transmission as A43D or A40D. For all I know, the truck was built with a beefier transmission because it was being fitted out as an RV, in which case it might not be either of those. Are there markings/identifying numbers on the case that would indicate which model it is? Thanks in advance for any help.
