Glove Box Light?.

Did the 84-88 trucks and 4Runners come with glove box lights, or was there an option for one?. On my 86 4Runner just above the glove box door there is a square hole and it looks like a light would snap into it, and i noticed a plug just above the a/c housing were a glove box light might plug in. Anybody have any info on this ?.

Mine still works. So yes, it has a light. Have fun changing out that bulb. Need some bulb pliers, maybe?

I think the hole for it is left of the glove box latch. If the wiring is all there it's probably a bulb. But it is a pain to get to it. Like Robb said, might be easier to do your own. I might throw a couple LEDs in there and tack into that same circuit.

Im interested in this topic as well. Last year I pulled a complete wire loom out of an 89 SR5 to convert my truck over for all the bells and whistles. In the loom there is a small light and switch used for the gloves box.

I posted a question about this and could not get info as to the switch location, the light was a no brainer.
Im still looking to find out where the switch location is as I can not find a punch out.
Can someone who has this feature on their truck shoot a picture of its location and post?
Page 130 of the 1989 owners manual says; "On some models the glovebox light will come on when the door is open with the headlight switch on".

I have mine stock from the factory, I can take pics, but it won't be tonight, sorry. I am leaving soo to help another member hopefully pull a set of 4.56's (owner has no clue what they are, door tag is MIA)

Also, the parking lights have to be on and the glove box open for it to work. Hope that helps a little......... I will try and snap a pic if I have time.

Post a picture for us when you get a chance. I have the light and the switch, and about a year ago or so i saw how the switch was mounted but at the time i was working on something else and didn`t pay any attention to the set up. Now im ready to do it and i can`t remember how it was set up.

Ok,gotta hurry, but I snapped a couple real quick so you aren't waiting on me all day.

Had to pull the glove box out in order to find the switch. You can see it on the little mini crossmember there. Not sure if it'll be there if you didn't get the light from the factory.
Sorry if the pics are huge, didn't get a chance to resize them.

You can see the blue plug up top where it plugs into the harness.

And the cutout for the light is to the left of the latch facing straight down into the glove box.

So the only pic I did not get was how the light itself attaches into the dash. If you guys REALLY need that one, I will try to get a pic for you. But I will be helping another member regear his 4Runner today. I know you guys are all antsy for a glove box light!!

Hope that helps, and again, sorry it took me so long.
