Conversion - diesel tractor engines

Has anybody done any research on using an old diesel tractor engine? I can get my hands on a Kubota diesel engine. I was brain storming and thought I would do a Google search and found this guy’s web site shade tree conversions . If you think about it tractor engines are cheap, easy to find and fairly simple to work on. Any thoughts?

My only thought is that those engines normally are like 40-50hp.

They can go up in size up to 75-85hp for the smaller tractor motors. I would think if you use a 50hp and turbo or super charge it to get the hp up. The biggest thing with diesel is look at the torque it produces. Lets say you have a 55 hp kubota @ 1800 rpm it produces 120lbs of torque. An 85hp motor would have around 210lbs. (Approx. #'s)
