From the Costco website:

Non-members pay a 5% surcharge for costco.com purchases, except for prescription drugs and gift certificates.

Looks like you can buy it without a membership.

Yes, you have to be a Costco member to buy stuff at the store. I don't even know if they have these racks at the store. I've never seen them there.

Well, I just bit the bullet and ordered one for delivery to Calais, ME. I'll have to drive over from Canada to pick it up (1 hour drive). I had to buy it on the Costco.com (US) website, because it wasn't listed on the Costco.ca (Canada) website.

For those of you that got one, does it come shipped in a box in pieces (from the pictures, the rack looks like it splits apart in two pieces), or does it come fully assembled? I just need to know if the box it comes in is the full size of the rack, or whether it will easily fit inside a car.

It comes split in half. The box is big, but it should fit in the back seat of a car. If it doesn't, ditch the box.

To all, Just keep in mind that this rack is 6.5" tall. That means that from the top of the cross members that it will be fastened to, the rack will be aprox 9.5" from your top of rig. I'm going to pass on this as I think it is way to high looking for my rig.

Yes, It's a bit tall, but still way better than driving through the woods on a camping trip with my plastic travel rooftop carrier mounted on the roof. Plus, the stuff in the basket is going to be taller than the sides of the basket anyways, so it probably doesn't matter whether the sides are 4.5 inches or 6.5 inches when it's all loaded up for a trip. Thanks again for letting us know about this travisk.

I just field tested this bad boy. It held 10 gallons of gas and a tool box across 480 miles of nasty Death Valley dirt roads. I guess it's certified!

I just thought I'd update here. I had ordered this from the Costco.com website, and since I'm from Canada, and they don't ship to Canada, I wanted to get it shipped to Calais, ME so that I could drive 1 hour to go pick it up (the Canadian Costco website does not sell this roof basket).

Anyways, during the checkout process on the website, it asks for billing address (must be as shown on your credit card bill). So I figured I'll put down the same address as I'm getting it shipped to in Calais, thinking they won't check. Well, they cancelled the order because of that. I called them up and they said that they are not set up to sell to Canadians, so there's no way I can get it.

Just thought I'd post up to let any other Canadians know about this.

Anyone have pictures of this on a first gen 4runner? I'm curious how high it looks. I'm considering buying one and using the stock hardware to bolt it to the fiberglass shell permanently. So would the top of the basket be 6.5" from the fiberglass shell? If so that would put me at 6' 4.5", how low do parking garages get? lower then 6' 6"?

Call up the credit card company and give them the address in ME as your billing address. Wait a day for the computer to update, and then order from the website. Once it's shipped, then call up credit card and have your address changed back to Ca

Good idea. You can add multiple billing addresses to one card, so you shouldn't even have to change it back.

I got mine after seeing Miller's and I'm very happy with it. $83 total was well worth it!
