Chevron techron fuel system cleaner

I just added a bottle of this stuff http://www.midwayautosupply.com/deta...ption.asp?4424

I have heard from many engineers...that this stuff really works well. I will report back when i get done. I have been dealing with a lot of pinging lately...so hopefully this will fix it.

Really?
I bought a 4 pack from Costco and ran some in my truck - didn't feel a thing!
I look forward to hearing your results though. Maybe mine just wasn't in bad enough condition.

Maybe you should add some of your avatar to your tank.

I crack myself up.

yea i hope it works as well. It will be awhile before I get results. Prior to this, i was getting an average 15.9 miles per gallon. I dont have any scientific data or anything of that nature.

The stuff I buy at Costco is the Chevron Fuel Injection cleaner WITH Techron.

The stuff I but at the parts store is Chevron Techron (high strength stuff). It is stocked next to the type Costco sells and is way better. I usually run the large 20 oz bottle once each year.

I don't know an awful lot about engines, but wouldn't pinging be more of an octane issue than an issue of how clean your fuel system is? I use the Techron additive in my vehicles as well, '01 Integra GSR and '98 SR5 T-100, and I agree that a clean fuel system is a very good thing.

However, I was under the impression that pinging is also known as detonation or pre-ignition. In other words, a clean fuel system alone may not solve your problem. You might be well served by upgrading to a fuel with a higher octane level. The higher octane would, hopefully, keep your truck from pinging.

Another thing to consider is your timing advance. Someone with more experience than me can probably fill in here, but I believe that excessive advance can also lead to pre-ignition (pinging).

EDIT:

I was sitting here thinking about this some more, and began to think about your injectors. As I said, I don't know too much, but perhaps the fuel system cleaner could solve your problem. I suppose, if you had really dirty injectors, and a very poor spray pattern, that a good cleaning could really help out with your engines burn cycle (you know, flame front and all that good stuff).

Is the engine dieseling? Perhaps dirty injectors and a poor spray pattern are leaving a goodly amount of unburnt fuel in your cylinders, which is in some way leading to the pinging you are experiencing.

Now I am really interested to see what others post up. I am also interested to see what kind of results you get.

(Nevermind me if I am off base. I am just thinking out loud, lol.)

Strider,

your comments are always welcome! I was thinking that it could be due to filthy injectors, since gas these days isn't what it used to be. That being said, I have just ordered new plugs and wires. I havent changed my wires, so hopefully that will contribute it. If not, the timing might need advancement. What I noticed the most was that it was pinging when at full throttle. Hopefully my problem will be solved with a few, fairly inexpensive solutions.

Matthew

I also have heard that Techron is good stuff, Walmart used to carry it but not anymore. I use it maybe once a year, but to me it's more maintenance, I never really expect to see better MPG after a treatment, but if it keeps my injectors clean and working a bit longer then it is worth it.

I've never strayed from using BG's 44K once a year and I know the stuff works.

Sometimes using a fuel system cleaner can help eliminate pinging but only on engines that have excessive carbon buidup on the tops of the pistons. This is caused by large deposits of carbon retaining heat buildup and causing misfires but it is kinda rare.

I like Redline but I only seem to feel the difference during the tankload of gas that actually has the solution in it.
