A/C Fan Problems

Hey guys... been having this problem for some time now but its gradually getting worse.

the fan for the a/c, the first 3 settings do not work. Lo * * Hi. The fan will only turn on when you switch it to high. what do you guys think it could be?

also, my a/c doesnt work either. the air doesnt get cold. before, when you have the fan on, and then push in the a/c button, you can hear the engine rev up but now, the engine doesnt rev up at all. does that mean the a/c isnt turning on or because its out of freeon (if thats what it uses)... what do u guys think?

i'm a roll down the window type of guy but dang, it sucks to be hot wearing a suit to work.

Thanks!

Josh

Regarding your problems with the fan, it's probably the resistor, portions of it burning out. Check out 4Crawler's website. He has a detailed description of the problem and the fix that has helped many, including myself on my 1st gen. It's an easy repair. A new resistor for my truck was about $15, as I recall.

One caveat: it's probably the resisitor so long as the fan doesn't work when you use the heater, as well. If you're fan speed problem is solely related to the a/c, then you can probably count the resistor out.

Hope this helps. Let us know what you find.

Ah, then you;re in luck. A $15 plun-n-play repair is always good for the ego and the wallet. As for your a/c issue, I had to get my 87 a rechartge last summer. The first place I took it to couldn;t get it right the first three times. I got a recommendation for a differnet shop and they fixed it in the first. It;s nice rdinbg in an old truck with a good working a/c unit. I think the recharge was about $150 for the service and some parts- Keep in mind these are DC-area prices (always high; gas at $3.20 for premium this morning). Anyway, good luck. H.
