BEWARE, IMPORTANT READ Theft NEW, Toyota Owners

TO ALL TOYOTA OWNERS's
Catilytic Converters are Being STOLEN !! It was on the News.

My Cat. Catilytic Converter in my Daily driver 1992 4runner Was STOLEN out of the Truck !! and I live in a nice neighbor hood . Santa Clara !!
My thief actually left the bolts and Bolts & bracket on the ground

Spoke to my Favorite parts lady, Evidently the Toyota Cat's have Platinum in them. There is a market for these, so the thieves steal them and get Money !!

Don't be a victim

Weld a bar or something on the Exhaust Bolts !! So cannot remove the bolts !

The palladium inside is worth waaaay more than the platinum.

Most every cat out there has some precious metals inside.

Sounds like the story of the guy who woke up in a tub full of ice with blood everywhere, missing a kidney...

Last time I recycled they told me the money was in copper and cats...especially cats. Bring 'em in bring 'em in, they said.

Actually my yard, and consequently ANY wrecking yard cannot legally sell cats until they have been recertified by a state certified facility. And then the scrap value it way under what you pay for a cat.

Scrap value on a cat is a LOT tho. We are getting 10-50 dollars PER CAT, and the scrap people buying them from us still have to sell them to a shipper. They do have platinum in them, so they are worth a lot if in good shape.

Most of you wont have to worry since the bolts are always welded on with rust

Oh yeah, cats are stripped from every junk yard in my parts. There are several people I know of buying them for $50-75. My father has a small car lot and we just junked about 7 parts cars, and he got $75 a peice for all but one of the cats.. Some cars have two.

well i dunno about the rest of the states, but in washington its highly illegal to sell an uncertified cat. And washington just adopted the CA emissions laws starting in 2007, so it will be even MORE regulated than before.

This just happened to 3 of my fathers co workers. They did it in their work parking lot to 3 Toys (Highlander, and 2 Runners). The thieves used a portable Sawzall, and just cut the pipes in no time and were gone.
