All of a sudden it is very hard to switch gears. The only thing that happened this week was the I spilled some soda near the cup holder. Do you think the soda is causing it to stick?

 

Soda in the shifter is a classic cause of sticking condition. You should be able to take it apart and clean it out.

 

I figured that. At first I was mad as hell at the punk who sold me the soda w/o putting the top on securely but then I realized it's my own damn fault for either buying from him in the first place or not checking the lid myself.

 

flush your tranny and check the transmission clutches and make sure they are ok
