Anybody Interested In A 22R-G?

Hey y'all,

Just thought I'd run this one by you guys:

Obviously, Toyota doesn't make fresh 22R/R-E/R-TE block and head castings for complete, new short blocks... this much we know for sure.

How about this, though... what about taking the existing 22R head and making a new one to fit the preexisting oil and coolant passages in addition to accommodating preexisting head gaskets, and then making it into a DOHC 16 valver instead of the old school SOHC 8-valve design??? Hmm???? Any takers? I work in a place where I would be able to make this type of engine.

This would become the all-new 22R-G, 22R-GE, and 22R-GTE series. Bulletproof, with all the performance advantages that DOHC provides.

I'm not about to pretend that I can do anything close to what the Toyota engineers from Japan are capable of, but I'd like to build a few test units and run the ever living you-know-what out of them to see if this idea works in the real world.

Nissan did it with the old NAPS-Z DOHC engines and the KA24DEs in the so-called "Hardbody" trucks.

Perhaps we could do it with old Toyotas too.

Let me know what you guys think.

While it would be cool to have one and if you are able to produce them by all means do it, I dont see a big demand. If someone wanted a DOHC engine, a 2rz or 3rz swap would probably be cheaper then buying a custom head.

Being you can buy new heads now.

The cost of building a head would pretty much push it way above the price most would be able to afford.

Then getting this new engine so to speak to be street legal adds even more $$$$

Your idea is good but Not something easy to market .

Then there is the little fact unless you have a legal contract with your employer anything you may earn or the costs of this project belong to your employer. Meaning you could be working for free to build this project.
