Any turbo 4runner owners?

I was suprised when I learned that there was a turbo 4runner produced during the first gen. Any of you guys own one? I was wondering what kind of power they had and if they were good for wheeling? Seems like it might be kind of a hinderance during low rpm wheeling. From what I understand they are pretty rare, did they have any features found only on the turbo models?

I had one for awhile. Stock it was pretty slow, but opened up decently with a manual boost controller and freer flowing exhaust. Wheeled just fine, although I wouldn't want to take it out when temps were high (100+). Power delivery is somewhat less linear, but since the 4runners were only available with automatics it isn't too much of an issue.

Interesting, was it intercooled? How much boost did it run? Did you have a loud blow off valve? hahaha, that would be funny.

I have 4 4runners one is an 87 4runner, it has an APEX controller pushing 15 psi of boost and the turbo will almost run the truck by itself. Other than that it has 233,000 miles and still runs good.

I have one. I bought it with a slight engine knock (product of temporary bad care...probably run without oil for awhile), so it's in the process of receiving new main and rod bearings, and thrust washers. So I haven't driven it yet, but rust-free for $1600...and it's probably going to cost me less than $100 in parts to get it running again...I'm happy.

from what I've heard, it's a pretty conservative turbo setup, so the turbo spools up quick and peaks early, so the torque isn't much of an issue. it also means it's got the tougher rear 3rd member, and an automatic. no intercooler...

it's also an SR5, so it has all the options, rear heat, sunroof, digi dash, power everything, etc. etc.

here's my rig:

and the dash:

I'm stoked to get it fixed up, lifted up, and on the trails!!!
