I have a 94 Toyota pickup with a 22RE and it's been acting up lately..

it intermittently surges the rpm at idle, it was small now getting worse and smells like gas.

also I was driving it home from work and the truck got hot when I was almost home and pushed all the coolant out of the radiator, parked it. Next day refilled the water and coolant and it made it all the way to my storage shop just fine. Does it need a head gasket or?
