84 4Runner canopy

Anyone have a recommendation for restoring/cleaning the black canopy on my 85 4runner. It is in great shape just oxidized a bit. Anyone ever use WIPE NEW? Or do you have any other recommendation and first hand experience on a great product to use for brining back the shine?

I'm not familiar with that product. The canopies were finished with a coat of gel coat. It's an expensive proposition to spray that stuff. If yours is black and "oxidizing" it's just the gel coat wearing off. Most people spray or roll on Rustoleum satin black or white, depending on the color you have. You can do a search on painting the top or topper, although canopy is what Toyota calls it. I find searching Google will chuck up more threads than just Yotatech. There are a lot of obscure Toyota fan pages and people's blogs where they have done work. You can try the Wipe New but it's probably not going to bring back the worn areas. When you do decide to paint be sure to dewax because I bet Wipe New has silicone in it.

Thanks Nervo19, I am not going to use anything unless I find someone who has first hand experience and it worked. To get it perfect I think you are correct painting it is the best option. I was hoping to find a temporary solution to spiff it up in the meantime.

Well after talking to several people I landed on using Back to Black by Mothers. I followed directions applying liberally and rubbed it in as well as possible. The top of the canopy was well oxidized and it really removed all that well. Over the next few days there were some areas that streaked a bit and as the directions stated I just buffed it in some more. However, I did not apply any more product. I just buffed the areas that streaked a bit.Three days later and several buffing sessions on different areas it looks great. I wish I would of taken pictures now it came out so good.

SO anyone wanting to add some shine to the top and renew the black canopy I would recommend this product for the job.
