1985 celica Rear wheel drive (the good ones)

I finally got a donor engine(22re) for my celica. I was wondering is it easier to pull out the engine/tranny together or does it need to be unbolted 1st then engine pulled out w/ cherry picker?

Don't know how easy it is to get to the bellhousing bolts are on the old celicas, but i know for damned sure it was easier to take out both at once in my '85 corolla.

It depends...FWD, definately yank the package together. Just lower the whole thing to the ground and you're done.

On a RWD corolla, it's easyier to pull the T50 tranny because it's light (about 25# lighter than the W58 in the celica) and then yank the engine out the top. No need to remove the hood even.

On a celica, it depends on your garage ceiling height, the engine by itself doesn't require the same amount of height, and you won't need a tilting tool either. With the engine and trans, you'll want a high ceiling + remove hood, etc. If you're dismantling the donor car you can cut the rad upper tie bar and not tilt anything, just pull the whole engine+trans package out.

HTH.
