Yakima Q-towers on a 1st Gen.?

Sorry if this has been discussed already but I'm not finding the answers I'm looking for...besides, I'm just a silly newbie.

I'm the proud new owner of an '87 4runner that I plan to slowly set up for some overland expeditions and camping trips. I recently made a 16 hour round trip with a canoe strapped down tight to the factory roof rack and I felt like I was pushing the limits. The OEM rack looks pretty weak and ugly!

Anyways, I've got eight yakima Q-towers, two 48" crossbars, two 72" crossbars, and two Q32 clips from previous vehicles and I want to setup some roof storage on the 4funner and maybe prepare it for more canoe hauls...according to Yakima's website I can use the Q-towers and Q32 clips on a '87 standard cab pickup but not on the 4funner. They say I need to have some custom setup done.

I just wanted to know if any of you with a 1st gen 4runner are using the Q-towers and I'd love to hear how they've served you and pics would be great!

Thanks for the help.

I have a yakima rack on my 4runner but I have the Rain gutters towers..

the q-towers need something to get under neatch.. you maybe able to fit something up front on the cab section.. but not sure what you are going to to about the rear mount...
