Wiring connector help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dove head first into my first ever engine rebuild and well, its kickin my butt! everything is ready to go but a few wires. First i cant seem to find the wire to the starter that engages it, but i have a loose wire that i cant find a home for (it will not reach the starter)
For some reason its only letting me post one picture

Truck is a 1989 long bed 2wd. 22RE

Thanks so much

Try using a free hosting service like photo bucket or similar. Also if you are posting from your phone I have had similar problems in the past, being able to only post one pic. Worst case you could do several posts and one pictures in each.

Now do you know you re routed the wires properly. I have made that mistake in the past. Hope his helps.

Good luck

Does it look like it should fit on your starter? Not sure from the picture. But i know on m 22re. There are a few unused plugs that I'm sure are for accessories that I don't have. If it looks to fit then that might be your wire but before you to to play Jenga with your wiring harness make see it should fit. It can be tough after 9 months. I had a hard time after 3 days. That's why I took about 100 pictures to remind me of where stuff went.
Good luck

Been awhile since I worked on an 89 and think it is still the same. The brown wire in hand looks to be the starter wire. If that isnt the correct, the starter wire connector is brown on the 84-88. I think that is still the same on newer trucks as well.

The white one, does that go to your oil sender? It usually has another plug that joins the main harness then connects to the sender. The short section is usually about 3 or 4 inches long if I recall right.

Turns out I didn't have the harness routed correctly. The harness that runs down to the trany goes between number 4 and 3 cylinders in the intake manifold then over the fuel filter then over the starter to the trany and you are correct on the brown connector going to the starter the other connector went to the sensor behind the thermostat housing

Glad to see you got it. I made that mistake one time. I have seen some remove the section between #3 and #4 on the intake just to avoid that problem. I just made myself to remember that it goes thru the intake. After having to disassemble everything again, that was enough for me to learn that one.

If such a question arises in the future, here's a suggestion. Connect a voltmeter between the wire in question and ground. Turn on the ignition. If there's voltage, it's not for your starter. If no voltage, then turn the key farther to the "start" position. If there's voltage then, you can be pretty sure you've found your wire. If you don't have a voltmeter, you could also do this with a 12V bulb that has some lead wires soldered to it.
