My first automatic transmission. Used to driving manual and I never smelled a clutch burning.
My 2010 4Runner has 1,200 miles. Every time I go full throttle for 2-3 gears in automatic or shift-tronic the engine compartment has a very strong burning clutch smell. (like 10mph up to 70mph as fast as possible to get on the highway) I tried this on an older 4Runner too, same smell but not as strong.
Only seems to smell when it changes gears at 4500 or higher rpms under stress. But would the automatic transmission feather the clutch to burn it like that?
Do all of them do this?
Do I want the dealer to look at it?
Or is the 4Runner's clutch not designed to accelerate like that?
