What will help my horsepower on a 94' 4 Runner??

Hello, Help this is my 1st truck ever and I just got it a month ago. Its a 1994 4 Runner 4 WD 3.0 L Automatic truck and when I step on the gas it doesn't have alot of giddy up. Meaning it shifts fine n my idleing is fine it just doesn't seem to have its full potential and I have heard about K n N intake kits but will that make a big noticable difference?? If so ill go ahead n buy one. I'm seeking any advice that will help boost horsepower for my truck. Ive always had 350 engines n maybe that is why I'm expecting some power when I punch it but idk. Thanks in advance for any advice.

The best way to get more power out a Toyota is to swap in a bigger engine!

On a serious note, intake and exhaust would help, as would doing a tune-up. But I wouldn't expect extreme gains in horsepower.

I had small block and big block V8's. and you will not even come close to that in our small yota's. however. A good tune up and some intake and exhaust will net some gains but not a lot. If you must have more power look at a 3.4 swap. It's still all Toyota with great reliability but also a nice bump in power. From what I have read it is not that hard to do. But by no means an easy task either. These old yota's were never meant to go fast but they will almost always get you there even when broken. I threw a rod on my last yota w/22re and drove it home with holes in both sides of the block. It even started the next morning. Try doing that with a 350. Haha. Not a jab at 350's I actually love that motor just making an example.

Depending on the type of driving you do most you could look at a gear swap. More low end felt power but higher rpm's at hwy speed. So it's a trade off. Keep asking questions and search the site a lot. There is a engine swap section as well as tons of info on gear swaps.
Hope this helps good luck

Pray tell just what other 4x4 are you comparing it with??

You can throw lots of money at any Toyota 4x4 there meant to take you out and bring you home. Every time.

You want torque to tow Buy a Power Stoke 7.3 or a Cummins 5.9

You want Horsepower buy a Supra or a Camaro

Cheap engine $10,000 454

Be glad it starts and stops and gets you where you want to go.

Yes the 3.4 swap does give you a tad more power.
