What weight oil should I use?

for what it's worth at this point, I've been using the Shell Rotella t6 5W40 full synthetic for the last 2k miles or so. Before that I used regular 10W30, 10W40 and valvoline semi syn 10W40. I haven't noticed any difference at all except it starts a little easier when cold. I attribute that to the 5W as opposed to 10W in all the other oils I mentioned.
As many people have said before, "It's a 22R/RE just keep oil in it and it will run forever.
Now, if your engine is worn or has a lot of miles the oil you keep in it should probably be a thick one.
I have run 20W50 in these engines before with good results.
End of topic.

I just changed to Shell Rotella T 15w-40 today. I've always used Castrol GTX and the last 2 changes tried the High Mileage GTX. Each time it smelled more burnt than the regular GTX when I'd drain it (3000 miles) and some seems to mysteriously disappear after extended highway driving (~200 miles). I'll see how this goes, it's the first time I've strayed from Castrol in about 9 years!

I check every 2 weeks usually. I do drip a drop or so every once in a while. I still need to investigate the source. I've heard good stuff about this Rotella oil though, not expecting a miracle but sometimes a change is exciting...

So you're saying that the 5w-30 I accidently used will be okay in the middle of summer?
I totally spaced out when changing my oil today and realized afterwards that I used 5w-30. My 22RE only has 45k on it and it's August in Central Texas which means hot hot hot. I'm debating whether I should drain and refill with 10w-30 or just say to hell with it.

I've been using 10w-30 since i've been driving, and I usually use a quart of lucas every oil change. but with the 10w-30 and the lucas sometimes when i turn the key, the engine oil light stays on maybe 2-3 seconds. Which makes me think the oil may be too thick. www.bobistheoilguy.com has some great info. I'm thinking about switching to redline synthetic 5w-30 now. Anybody use that?

yeah its pretty pricey, but your extending your oil change intervals also. Right now an oil change runs me about 40 bucks 4 quarts of castrol high mileage 10w-30- 20$ pure one oil filter-6$ and a quart of lucas-11$ So i figure if switch to redline it'll cost me about 50 and i can go twice as long. I don't think it's a bad deal.
