Good luck finding one 4.88 diff in a junkyard, much less both. That would literally be a needle in a haystack around here.

I would think so, you may have to call them though. They probably don't have as much demand for the older diffs because there aren't as many around these days and many of them already have gears by now.

You could also have Zuk or someone regear your own 3rds.

@ trail-mart you can get detroit equipped assembled third w/ 4.88's AND an assembled open diff with 4.88's for about $1500-1600

my local vendor gives me free shipping, you should check around and see if you can get the same deal

http://www.trail-gear.com/assembled-units

i would of went this route, but i got my gears/locker setup for around $650 front and rear.

Found my 4.88's at a pull-a-part last Friday, $50 for the rear, $40 for the front! I got LUCKY! They have a 4.88 front still sitting there and both front and rear 4.56's.

i know where a set of 4.88's are RIGHT NOW..just sitting in the 4runner in a dudes field..he's not parting it out..and you can't see the 4runner from the highway..so i know no one will be getting them ..i don't have the money right now or i would be all over em

since they won't be leaving though, i figure i can let em set for the time being

not much else on the runner though, it's rusted out LOL came from MN i believe so that's prolly why lol

click the link in my sig. Happy reading.

BTW, since you have an 85, you will need 2 rear 4.88's. Just wanted to clarify. Easiest thing to find 4.88's in is a 2nd gen auto 4Runner. The ones that came from the factory with 31's will have your 4.88 thirds in em.

Check out the eriks diffs link. Check out the pics of the front IFS diff. Then go under the front of your rig and notice it will not find it's way into a solid axle. But the front diff will look oddly similar to the one in the rear. Straight axles are different. You need 2 rear diffs for your pickup.
