what does ECT mean ?

Hi guys! i'm new on this forum. I really appreciate the topics being posted here, it helps me a lot with my 1992 Toyota SSR Limited Edition modification.
This morning, i was going through the with it, i noticed a button with ECT Power marking on it. Can anyone tell me what is the meaning of ECT ? and how does ECT works in terms of efficiency and fuel consumption ?

Thanks in advance!

Here's a thread I started on using the ECT and actually got better MPGs.

On pg.2 post #38 there is a good explanation on how the ECT works.

It means "Electronically Controlled Transmission". When you press the button, it makes it so your transmission will shift later when accelerating (and more readily downshift) to give you a little more power for driving in hilly areas, or towing. I haven't ever noticed if it changes my gas mileage...

I've been checking mine since X-AWDriver first posted that thread and find my mileage is about 10% better with the ECT on, and I like the way the truck drives better. Of course with 3.73 gears and 32" tires it needs all the help it can get.

Coming from the words of a yota rep: he basically explained that it causes the trans not to shift as fast, as evidenced by my old 93 camry with the 3.slow, it only dragged out my shifts allowing a smoother torque curve.

I used it alot and liked it, but be wanredif you play with it all the time it will affect the trans life, after I used it alot I chnaged the ATF after 20k it was nice and brown (thank god not burnt). 20k later I flushed again and it was gain brown, 20k I didnt use it and the ATF was much better.

Overall if you have the 3.slow its a godsend for the hiway.

It depends on how you drive what it will do to your MPG, it can improve it if you have O/S tires, live in a hilly area. By holding each gear longer you are at a higher rpm when you hit the next gear, so in times when that would cause lugging or lack of power it helps that, thus being more efficant.

Great timing. My wife just bought a 96 Limited 4Runner with this odd little switch. I was wondering what it did. Now anybody know how to fix the stock 6 disk CD changer??
