welded gears

I bought a truck that has both the front and rear spiders welded. I understand the basics of the drivetrain, but have a quick question. Would it be bad to lock the hubs but keep it in 2wd? I know one wheel will want to spin faster than the other. Also, I have read mixed reviews on wheeling with one hub locked. good or bad idea? it seems like it would work alright, not great, but alright going one direction, but not the other depending on which hub is locked.

Definitely would be bad on the street. On the dirt though, it won't be any worse than 4x4 is. The tires will still be locked together when the hubs are locked, there just won't be any power going to it in 2wd.

I have a lot of buddies who lock just one hub especially in the snow - it makes steering easier.
