Water proofing the distributer ?'s

I went out wheeling yesterday with some buddies and we found some mud holes with deep water over the hood. l hit a shallower hole with to much speed and got the distributer wet and the truck cut off instantly.

What is a good way to water proof the distributer so that this never happens again? RTV the cap to the distibuter?

wd40 resists water, but if you fill the cap with water its useless. On mine I rtv the cap, and the vent. Water got in, there was a vent hole on the bottom of the distributor that had to be sealed too. If its an everyday driver, then id be careful about sealing the vent.Needs to let vapor out. But if you just mud it, then you want to keep the water out.

Um, I don't see a snorkel in your pic.

If you were deep enough to get the distributor that wet, your air intake was fully underwater and you are lucky you didn't hydrolock the motor.

The fix is cheap and easy.

Don't drive in water that deep. Especially on the driver's side.

I have had the same problem in the past with water "splashing"... i think others missed that part...onto the d cap. the wd-40 trick works great but, is only temp, but for a daily driver it will work good just keep a can with you when you go out to play.

WD-40 is only for drying a wet cap out so you can get going again, it won't provide any "protection". Seal it with rtv if you want it waterproof; I'm not sure about the vents & what not since I don't scuba with mine. I do know there is a way to completely waterproof one, it might involve some sort of vent relocation with tubing etc. I just really don't know.....it'd be interesting to find out.
