truck wont start

i have a 78 yota pickup with a 20r in it and it will not start when i try it turns over and just backfires the timing is firing right on any ideas?

If your truck has a fuel cut solenoid on the carburator, check to see if its good. If your carb has one and its bad, your truck won`t start.
