might want to see if u can get a intake set up and exhuast to help with a little more power, also cam would help. but it sounds like its just the way your truck is for being slow.

+1 on what everybody said. Also check out plugs, regap if needed and maybe try the recommended Nippon Denso, they helped just a little with mine. Plug wires, too...tho mine are old and work great. New air filter, yadda yadda. I've run mine up 75+ w/ 235/75's on flats, but I go easy everywhere I go, so that hasn't happened in a while. Don't let anybody tell ya the motor sucks...it only 4 cylinders, that's all.

With 31'' tires and 4.10 gears, you might be a little under geared. Some 4.88 gears would help a lot and get you back the lost power and speed.

Surely thats not right. Pretty much stock 88 4x4 w/31/10.5/15 & 4.10gearing. Idles fine & seems to run fine (sluggish, but smooth).I also notice coolant left front, top corner is soaked but none on ground...water pump looks new...any ideas or nature of the beast? Thanks
Welcome to the wonderful world of the early Toyotas. Trust me, I never got any speeding tickets in the 4 that I have owned. The 22R and 22RE are great engines, and pretty reliable, but its no speed demon. Typically though, inline engines are built more for torque than HP. for example I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.0 inline 6. It has more torque than the V8 that was offered that year, but the v8 has more HP. Id rather have the torque.

Set back and enjoy the drive, just plan accordingly. leave early for work..lol
