Hey guys this is my first post as a Toyota Owner. I picked up this beauty, a black 1991 Toyota Pickup 22RE 5-speed 4x4 with 155,000 miles on it rust free!!!! But anyways, I just wanted to know any specific house cleaning maintenance items I need to be doing beside the obvious (oil, filters, grease chassis). The timing chain has been done shortly before I bought it and the valves aren't making any noise. Thanks for your help any input is appreciated.

 

Change the fuel filter.

 

Give it a tune up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, air filter, PCV valve,)

Then have fun with it...and then...

Wow! Nice find! How did you find one rust free in the Indiana with all the salt they put on the roads?

 

I found it in Knoxville, TN I love in southern Indiana so it was like a four hour drive to pick it up, but well worth it. I just got tags and insurance today but I have been driving it a ton and I gotta say I love my first Yota!!!

 

Good find!! I Drove 4 Hours into Oregon to get mine, come to find it was from AZ! Rust free with all the bells and whistles. That thing looks clean, you'll have to post up more pics. Everyone on here is pic driven I think.

Congrats on your find! In southern Indiana myself near the Toyota plant, trying to get the rust off my '86.

Mine sat for the last 6 yrs then new plugs, wires, distributor cap, changed all belts and hoses, carb rebuild, changed oil and filters and it runs better now than it did when I stopped driving it in 2003!

Next on the list either regearing or removing all the rust and getting it repainted.

 

Wow thats a real clean toyota!!!I got a 94 toyota same as yours for 700 except it needed lots of work.The kid that owend it last worked with my dad out at the mines he was going to throw it away and then my dad made an offer.I have been dooing body work engin work and a LOT of interior work.
The funny thing is when i was taking my dash seat ect out I found a bag of stale weed yes WEED in my door.So I threw it away and made sure there wasent any in the rest of the vehical and there was under the seat. pissed me off I mean I love the truck but come on take your weed out of the truck before you sale it.If i woulda got pulled over I might of ben screwed.Now I gota fix the Right CV axil becaus the dumbass jumped it 45'.

Actually, you need to smack the guy that sold it too you. That thing is sweet. My bro had a '93 that he paid $13,000 for new. Have no idea why he ever sold it and he's been kicking himself ever since.

How's it running after the tune-up/housecleaning?

 

That was one of the best models ever. Extra points for a bench seat. Even my 02 Tacoma isn't as truckey as that ride is. I had to make up for it by getting an 89 4Runner.

 

Well I have been doing the routine adjustments, i had the idle surging problem when the brakes were applied turns out my A/C idle bypass was set a little high now she purrs like a kitten. I changed the oil I figure with 155K on it I'd step up to 10w30. Not messing with the engine coolant as it's brand new. I got some 3m undercoating and coated the underside of my rocker panels and wheel wells as well as the underside of the bed for the winter. I have an adapter for my brake pressure bleeder on the way to get some fresh DOT 3 in the brake system as well as the clutch lines. I went down to the Toyota dealer and put in an order:

-new o2 Sensor
-new spark plug set
-new spark plug wires and coil wire
-new cap and rotor kit

A trip to auto zone yielded me a new fuel filter for way less then what Toyota quoted me in case anyone's interested. I called summit racing for some Red-line MT-90 synthetic gear oil (GL4) for the transfer case and transmission and 75w90 synthetic gear oil (GL5) for my front and rear diffs. I think this about covers all the basic stuff. Any additional input would be appreciated. Until next time.

 

I got all my parts in this weekend and I plan on finishing up everything hopefully by Sunday. When I had the tires rotated and balanced I noticed I need rotors and pads badly so Im guessing I also need wheel bearings too. Oh the joys of Yota ownership.
