tires and lift

ok guys im new here and kindof new in 4wheelin. i just got a 99 4Runner SR5 and im planning on putting on some things. I have a few questions. I want to lift it but not too much and i dont have much money. I was wondering if i put on a revtech 3" lift kit what else would i need to make the lift complete. Are there other things I would need to put on to drive it. Is there anything else i need to know about this kit. Is it front and rear or just front.

Also what is the biggest tire I can fit on my stock wheels with stock suspension

Any help would be great thanks guys

I don't have an answer for you other than to suggest searching around the forums a bit, as there are a lot of lift dicussions here.

Good luck!

(and most places sell a revtek kit with the front and rear components together)

The answer is in the search. You will hear pro's and con's with spacers. Read up.

If you're set on the Revtek lift, I'd recommend checking for it at http://wheelersoffroad.com and/or http://xtremeoff-road.com ...

Id go with the famous tundra/ome setup. its been done many many many many many many many many times. Everyone loves it. may be a little more money, but u will have an awesome ride and lift around 2.5 inches. ur gonna need a diff drop(if one isnt included) 4crawler.com or Sonoransteel for the diff drop. largest tire u can fit on a 16x7 is 265/75/16. Do a search on tundra lift. ur also gonna need a pan hard drop bracket or bar, from sonoran steel. extended bumpstops ebrake relocation thingy mabober

no im not....darnit, theres another one of me somewhere else... :cry:

FWIW, its not exactly easy to tear apart your front suspension if you have never done it before. you may want someone in your area (YT is awesome at this) helping you. The tundra lift is the way to go. Andy (bamachem) has an EXCELLENT writeup about how to take the suspension apart. THe rears are cake, just the ifs is a PITA. Good luck

You might need spring compressors (buy good/quality ones so they dont break in the middle of compressing a spring) basic wrenches/ratchets/sockets. I believe the front shock mount is a 21mm. thats the biggest you are going to need. Also a looooot of elbow grease.

Use the search feature and look for "Suspension Lift FAQ". All the junk you wanna know is there or linked there.

Good luck.

OME 891 = 139-->rear springs
Tundra springs= 90-->front
OME N86 = 153-->rear shock
OME N91= 219-->front shock
Diff drop= 20-60
pan hard bar/bracket = 75-150
extended bumpstops = 150-200
Extended studs/topouts (optional) 40 for the topout spacers and 20 for the studs.
WABFAB discos- FREE when you give wabfab $100..LOL they come with poly bushings.

I would definately go with this setup. It is a little more $$$ but definately worth it. Ive redone my suspension 3 times, and by far this is the best

If you just want a mild lift to fit some 265/75/16's, I would recommend the 2" 4Crawler (RB) bodylift. It is alot easier to install and all you need are simple handtools. Cost for the 2" BL is approx $150-$180. Check 4crawler.com for the info on the BL.

This also makes it a little easier if you decide you want to go higher with a suspension lift. Basically with the bodylift, the topnut of the rear shocks are easy to get to whereas without the BL, it is a pita to get off.

To answer your original question, the Revtek lift is all you need to get 3" of lift. It even has the drop brackets. If you have a '99, your stock shocks are probably dead and it would be a good time to replace them, but not necessary. Having said this, if cost is important, a spacer lift or body lift would be the most affordable.

If you want to do things once and right the first time, the bamachem thread noted above is the way to go. I wish I followed the advice but was new to trucks and went with the Revtek lift and Bilsteins. I like the ride but it is a bit stiff. To compensate, I got Addco sway bars, which have made a world of difference on the highways and street turns.

If you have any other questions, let me know as I have a '99 and a Revtek lift.

Wait, that's not true. I ran a 285/75/16 MT/R on my stock 16x7's.

..I guess I should mention that depending on the tire you run, they might rub some on the upper control arms. But the tire itself fits nice and snug on the 16x7 wheels.
