tire swap for mileage

tire swap for mileage
My tires are starting to get pretty bare and I need some new ones. I currently have 31x10.5 tires on 15" rims. I would like to get 31's again, or maybe go up a bit to 32/33. However, I am driving my truck to Texas in a couple of months, and towing a trailer there. I don't really want to buy bigger tires right before a long road trip, seems like it would waste gas. I am also afraid my 31's aren't up to the task either.
So, I'm thinking about buying some used rims and tires off of craigslist and driving them down there, and selling once I get there. Then I put my old rims back on with bigger tires. I can get 4 tacoma *edit: they are from a '95 tacoma* tires for $95. Will they fit my truck okay? Is it worth it to go down to 29's? I'm thinking it will make towing quite a bit easier too, am I correct in this?
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Picking up a set of 235/75/15 for CHEAP is easy, but, If you are going to get two sets of tires mabye some 33 mudders and 29 hiways is a good choice. Keep the road tires and get more agressive 33's. My tires didn't drop my gas milage, makes my 4.56's fell like 4.35's
