Tire decisions

I have done searches to no extent... and haven't found any good answers.

I want your opinions on some tires.

I just ordered some 16x8 Moto Metal M0951 wheels in machined black and want to wrap them with some new rubbers.

I have pretty much decided its a draw between Mickey Thompson MTZs, Dick Cepek Mountain Cats, Cooper STTs, or possibly Dunlop Rover M/T Maxx's (Even though this is the first I've heard of the dunlops)

I don't care about price, but I want a tire that is going to wear extremely well on road and last awhile, but give me the traction i need in the snow. (Snow is the only wheeling I do)

I am also open to suggestions besides the ones I mentioned. But don't try to sell me on a swamper, not happening.

You might want to look into the Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs. While I don't have personal experience with them, I have heard that they wear pretty well on road as well as off.

Yeah I have heard great things about the Duratracs and they are going to be my next tire. Also the MTZ's get good reviews by a lot of people. Look into the Duratracs though if you do more street driving and are in the snow a good amount.

I have the STT's and i love them, perform well on the pavement and in mud.
Very little road noise, and they wear awesome.
Ive had mine on my 1994 toyota since June and they still have about 75 percent tread.
And i have a tendency to spin my tires

But i wouldn't go for the dunlops...
Ive heard they develop flat spots while sitting over night and until you drive and warm the tires up, it'll be a rough ride.

Thats alot of hits on the duractracs, but i don't particularly care for the tread pattern and design.

Really? thats a first.

Honestly when it comes down to it man, you are better off getting a tire that you dont like the looks of if it performs better than the one you do like the looks of. You mentioned snow, i have never heard a bad thing about these in snow.

MTZ's are apparently spectacular, my boss has a set on his jeep and he loves them. I would go with those otherwise! i would have gotten those but they are $$$

Anyone elso on the dunlop rover m/t maxx's? I really like the look of them (And the price). They look very promising. And as for them flattening out, that is usually a trait of a bias ply tire or one that has sat in one spot quite awhile

I have only heard good things about the MTZ's. If you have the coin, I'd grab them.

Well for good wear I like and wildcountry xtx's and they have great traction in the snow and rain and won't be as heavy as a mudterrian I also like toyo mts for wear. But those are just my oppinions I have been a tire guy for 4 years now at a les Schwab tire center the mtz are a really good tire one of my co-workers bought a set really good traction so far good weight nice tread design but I'm not sure on the mileage but they look like they will last awhile.

Not to bash ya lol but I don't like les schwab products and their tire lines. And I will never own a wild country. Toyos are decent, but stiff as a rock when aired down

Lol stt are exactly the same my best friend works for a tire factory and I ran the xtx's on my dads ranger and got over 50k out of them and the traction Is awesome alot Better then I'll get from a mountain cat but their also good tire. I'm not a fan of good year tires because I see alot of them out of round and seperate. I think the only decent tires were missing from our Line is michelins. Although they have soft sidewalls

Ok I'll take that from ya. But whats good in your eyes besides the toyos and xtx's. Definately not interested in either of those. I am still leaning incredibly towards the MTZs

So far I'm impressed with the mtz looks good and aggressive my buddy has 33x12.50x17 he loves them and reccomends them I also am a fan of the km2's I just ordered a set o 35x12.50x15 for my dads 1990 yota to slap on after I finish his SAS but their backordered 2 weeks. And I agree with u I'm not a fan of the duratrack tread. And all the customers I've sold Mountain cats too are impressed and we have 4 or 5 guys runnin maxxis bighorns which are actually very decent mileage traction and weight wise I ran some on my 88 yota with 20% tread and they did awesome in the snow.

Yeah i dig the mountaincats, I've had them on one of my cherokees. As for km2s, I bought those brand new for my wrangler, and was not impressed at all in the snow with them. They were stiff even aired down to 6 pounds, and grip wasn't too impressed with either. Also if you live on a gravel drive way you will hate them because gravel ALWAYS got stuck inbetween the tread voids on them because they are so close together.
