Thermostat & Coolant Change

Hello all...so my 1992 toyota pickup has been overheating...just noticed it aftera short drive...talked to the previous owner...truck has recently replaced rad and water pump...so im hoping its the thermostat...i took the stat out last night and drained the rad of coolant...i cant find the engine coolant drain plugs ? 3.0 vze engine by the way...so i made it to lordco today and have a new thermostat and some new coolant. The stat i am not worried about getting back in, however i am confused on filling the coolant system back up...my manual says the system needs 9.8 litres of coolant...it say to pour the proper amount of antifreeze into the radiator, then fill with distilled water untill the rad is full...so do i put 4.9 litres of antifreeze and 4.9 litres of water to get a 50/50 mix ? Also is there any tips on avoiding airlocks ? any help is appreciated thanks

Fill the block through the upper radiator hose with the mixture, fill the radiator, start the engine with the cap off and keep adding to the radiator as the level drops. Finally, fill the overflow container to the proper level.
