So I'm trying to get rid of this horriable clunk in the front end of my runner. Looked at bushings in front swaybar totallty screwed. Also I smell gas but don't seem to find a leak. Any idea on where to get bushings or where my leak could be.

Pull the sway bar and see how you like it. Bushings went out in mine and i pulled it. Never going back. Much softer ride, and only a little bit more body roll. Just dont drive it like a race car.

 

A "clunk" isn't usually the bushings, is it? I would guess shocks, unless they have less than 80k on them. Replacing the bushings will tell you for sure, and they shouldn't be that much money.

As for the gas smell, the only times I've ever encountered that were both leaky injectors. Look around for wet spots around the gaskets, and it's definitely better to find the source sooner than later. Another idea is to pull your air filter and see if it(or the intake) smells like gas - I learned that from a jeep years ago.

Makes a clunk because the sway bar is catching the contol arm. Mine sounded pretty horrible.

I actually looked yesterday the bushing is just about beat out

 

no - those were two separate problems. My injectors were leaking, which caused a generalized gas smell under the hood. The air filter thing was from a PCV and valve cover gasket - it blew oil and gas smell into the air filter.

 

I don't think that would be the issue. Cause I did notice gas in a water puddle under me but no drip the gas lines were replaced. I'm thinking its probably a leaking injector. How many injector for a 3.0

anyone have any ideas on the clunk, im not 100% sure its the sway bar bushings.

 

Pull the bar off the truck and drive it for a couple of days. If the clunk is still there you can start looking elsewhere, if it's gone then you know what the cause is. That's my best advice, hope it helps.

If it's a clunk occuring around light turns when tension is transitioning on the sway bar, i'd definately look at the end links.

 

I'm not sure but I'm ordering energy suspention bushings and ill get end links too they look a little old anyway and gonna do a break job. Was going to get a new rear bumper as I buckled the old rotten one. But the 350 to 800 is out of my range. I can make one for half that. Lol

I pulled the sway bar off my truck and haven't noticed a difference in the handling of the truck at all. The only thing that changed was that I gained 1/4" of front wheel travel (it was disappointing) and my tires didn't rub anymore at full lock. I vote just take it off.

 

i pulled mine too and its not that bad. only time i notice it gone is on the highway with side winds or going fast around corners. but not too bad u will forget after a while and forget you even pulled it

 

Another vote for sway bar, mine made a horrible clunk noise too when bushings wore out. Took it off, never put back on lol.

 

only thing that worries me about doing that is where it is my daily driver i dont wanna get in an accident with a new born
