Swapping out a 22RE

Hello everyone. I've got a question about my 1990 toyota pickup. It was left to me when my grandfather passed away a short while ago and he had driven it since he purchased it in '89, although sparingly. It is a manual transmission (5 speed) and has the option of being either 2WD or AWD. The engine is a 22RE and the odometer just reacehd 136,xxx the other day. I had it in to have some general maintenance work done recently and the mechanic mentioned to me that I'm losing compression in one of the cylinders. When is does finally go, he said it would be about $1400 to rip it apart and rebuild it. Since I got the truck I've wanted a little more power than the 110 hp or so the 22RE puts out and I have been scanning this forum as well as others looking for replacement engines. My question is, will THIS engine fit without too much trouble (read labor $$$) if installed by my mechanic? I figure those have under half the mileage on them that my 22RE has on it, gives me more power, and also would only be a couple hundred bucks more for the engine and labor than rebuilding my 22RE would cost me. What do you guys think? If that engine won't work, what do I need to look for that will fit relatively easily? I know enough about cars to change my spark plugs and oil , unfortunately that is it so thanks for the help

Id try LC engineering. They build some performance 22r's. That deal on that supra engine looks to good to be true pricewise but maybe I'm wrong. Seems really cheap for anything turbocharged.

Low compression in one of the cylinders doesn't necessarily mean that the engine is going bad. One of the valves could just need adjustment or re-seating; they do need to be adjusted every so often.

I know I wouldn't trade my 22re for anything.

I do like the 22RE I currently have. I'm just looking for something bigger than the 110HP or so that it puts out. It seemed like the 7M GTE would be a good upgrade. I've found a few in the 1200 to 1500 range. I'm just wondering what I'm looking as far as parts and labor (estimate) to get the engine in a running
