Steering Extension Placement

On my third Toy truck, first was an 84 with 2” body lift on 32x11.5 mounted on 10’s, 22 R under the hood. Second was an 82 on 31x10.5 on 10’s, 20 under the hood. My current is an 89 I’ve owned 17 years with 128,000 original miles, 3.0 V6, originally stock on 31x10.5 on 8’s. I started with a 3” suspension lift and 33x12.5 on 10’s, had to trim some, didn’t like cutting my fenders and still had some rub in a bind, so I’ve gone with a 3” body lift and purchased 2 new fenders. My issue is that I loosened the steering shaft before lifting, it steers great, retained a factory look inside, but I got an extension with the kit and new firewall plate. It seems to be fine like it is, except the cover around the steering shaft looks like it’s rubbing on something. My question is, where does that extension need to go to eliminate the rubbing and will I need to change the firewall plate?
Any tips on putting a new parking brake cable on, the front part? I can’t even find where it comes through the firewall. Thanks in advance!!

She’s my ride til I die...

I’ve watched that video, but the plastic wheel the cable moves on is inside my truck. I’m not sure if that’ll make it easier or harder, but I intend to find out tomorrow if the weather cooperates. I’m going to spend a lot of time in the drivers side floorboard. I’m anxious to get everything finished so I can focus on fresh paint. I had it sprayed 5 yrs ago, but the “bodyman” used cheap clear and it started peeling within 18 months. Thanks for the video, I’m hoping it’s relevant to my cable swap.

Ok so I got the steering all lined out, it wasn’t as bad as I thought. The e-brake is a different story. Got the barrel out of the shaft, took the switch off and the barrel fell right out. Took the plastic wheel out and thought it should be a breeze. Wrong!! I stuck a red wire through the rubber grommet where the cable should go, I’m lost. I took pictures and will attach in case someone has seen this set up before. Any help would be appreciated.

Figured it out, was making great time and found out I was about 17”-18”
short. Regular cab cable instead of extended cab.
