sr5 cluster swap in 89 pickup problem!

I bought a 90 v6 sr5 gauge cluster and swapped it into my 89 pickup 3.0 with automatic trans. The tach does not work and it is my second cluster that I have installed where the tach does not work. Both were from a v6 however I cannot be positive if they were from an automatic or manual.

First question, does it matter if the gauge cluster is from a manual or auto trans
Second, where is the light or oil sending unit located on the block of a 1989 pickup 3vze auto pickup truck.

They say these gauge clusters are plug and play aside from the oil guage, however some trucks were not prewired for the tach. Could this be mine and if so how can I get the tach to work?

I pretty sure this has been posted before, but much of the info I need is spread out and incomplete. Any suggestions and replies would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like that's the issue. run a wire from the cluster to the "tach test terminal" on the ignition igniter. But then again, I've only ever swapped V6 clusters into 4cyl trucks and never had any problems or had to run wires . . . . so I don't really know
