squealing alternator belt

squealing alternator belt
A couple of weeks ago I had to change out my water pump (83 22R pickup).
Since then, the belt has been squealing when accelerating at the low end. The belt is loose. But I don't know how it got that way since I did not loosen the alteranator mount when doing the water pump job.
I tried to adjust the alternator today - loosened the mount screw - alternator wouldn't budge. I used a wood drift on the bolt 'ledges', but the thing seems frozen in place. Am I missing something?
thanks!

ahhh. That would explain it...d'oh
> How did you get the belt off if you did not loosen it ??
guess it must have been pretty loose already.
the whole truck is a mess. I'm saving it, wire by wire, hose by hose...
