Spindle bearings/bushings?
1986 Pickup 22rtec
So I finally managed to get the bottom ball joint out.. BFH was all I needed.
My axle moves moves around quite a bit in the spindle - I watched a you tube video posted on this forum.. so I do believe the play is excessive. In reading on the forum my guess is spindle bearings...
Q. Whats the story with getting replacement bearings (inner and outer)? and steering knukle bushings?
What exactly should I be replacing here?
I have searched extensively and found that Toyota went from a brass bushing to rolller needle bearings... some 4 or so years after initial production.
I quoted the Toyota dealership part #'s 90364-30011 (roller bearings) & 90381-32001 (inner knuckle bushings) with a hell of lot of confusion - these part numbers seem to be for much later pickups? Will they work for my 1986?
Your advice is greatly appreciated!

Not sure if those part numbers will work or not but I do know that if your truck has the bronze bushing, it's been recommended by some pretty smart Toyota techs over the years that you NOT replace it with the needle bearings.
My 4runner is a '95 & it has the bronze bushings so I can't say whether the change over was in '90 as you suggested or not, the pick-ups may have been different than the 4runners.
What I did was build the "spindle bushing lubrication tool" located here on the boards (search, you'll find it) & it enabled a proper greasing to be done & that remied my play & the noise. I lubed it some three years ago & it's still quiet. Might consider that instead of the change over to needle bearings....they require more maintenance than the bushing(s)

dealer parts...
Hey thanks for info! I have now found that yes brass bushings are all that are offered - at least where I am. Unfortunately the dealer qutoes me $317 for 4 bushings (inner and outer) and 2 dust seals!!
So, if I cannot find aftermarket ones that work I will likely just lube them and hope for the best.
Again, thanks for your reply!!
