1974 Toyota Pickup manual 4-speed transmission - shift retainer pins came out of retainer on shifter fork. Do I need special type retainer pins?
Also - does pin go all the way through the fork - or pin on either side. (hole in fork seemed tapered-or a pin busted off in it???). Fork is still in transmission-so hard to see.

Putting pins back in - someone said just use a roll-pin, squeeze and turn pin as you go in. Does not seem like this will work. (hole on retainer is larger than hole in fork).

Also, lining up the holes - on the fork-the holes are straight across. But on the shift-retainer - they are really offset.

Also - need new bushing for Shift Lever. Are these Generic? Am having trouble locating one.

This is a 21R engine (Japanese Crate motor) - 2 wheel drive. Would this be much the same as a 20R - as far as transmission??

 

I'm trying to picture what you're talking about but can't quite...on my transfer case, the pins went straight through, there was no offset. That's how you knew it was lined up right...because you could put a roll-pin right through it. Any photos? Everything in my t-case that had retainer pins was really straightforward. Just line up the holes, and lightly tap the pin in with a leather punch or something similar.

Yes - once it's lined up, the pin would go straight through. It's just lining up the holes.

I've tried turning & twisting the shifter fork to get it lined up. This has been a lot of work...
On the retainer socket itself - holes are angled down. On the fork - straight across - so I would have to twist the fork rod into the perfect angle, I guess.
