I have a 86 x-cab with the ifs up front. I plan to swap it out for a soild axel. My question is this....do I need to buy a ifs eliminator kit like TG sells. I don't want to spend any unnecessary cash. Thanks guys. Owen

Did you need to know what gears to run and what size tires will fit too?

I recommend you do some reading or take it to a shop and have them do it.

You don't have to buy an IFS eliminator kit, I was on a really tight budget building my 86 4runner, I used Toyota RUF springs (rear springs up front) they are longer than stock Toyota front springs, comparable in length to what TG sells, and flex well, it also moved my axel forward about 2". Depending on your fab skills you can save a lot money. I built my own front spring hanger, but still had to buy shocks, shock hoops, brake lines, Hi-steer, steering box relocation kit, (already had front shackles) built my own front driveline. I did the IFS hub swap onto the straight axel to widen it with out running wheel spacers, but had to buy new land cruiser rotors to make it work. I probably still had around $750 into my SAS about half what the IFS eliminator kit would cost. But I did a lot of research before and during my swap. I won't lie, if I had the money at the time, I probably would have just bought the kit, It would have been a lot easier, and faster than piecing it together, but I was doing a engine swap at the same time, and like I mentioned was on a really tight budget.
I agree with BigBluePile, and would go to the SAS section of the forum and start researching. Find a build thread that is similar to what you want to accomplish on your truck and start reading up on it. Good luck!

Find a parts truck mine cost me 500 and that includeds all the parts I bought. I converted mine from 2wd. So I bought a v6 trans, turbo bellhousing, 83 front and rear axles plus I cut all the original brackets of the doner truck. I also had to buy new calipers and brakes and that 500 bucks includes everything I bought except for tires and wheels

I would save up and buy the kit. I bought the TG kit it came in on a Thursday and I was driving my runner on Monday without one trip to the store. It all depends on what you have, time or money. Nobody has both.

I don't believe he asked for that, Logan. Thanks for your help bud. Lol...

Get the kit. It saves a lot of hassle.
