Roof mount lights
Hey quick question, I will be mounting some lights up on the roof soon, i have the wiring figured out but i can't figure out how i want to mount the lights. My question is, is there any way to get the lights closer to the front of the car, the cross bar on the roof rack is so far back! I guess a couple feet isn't much in the grand scheme but it just seems odd.

I hear having them too far up causes glare on the hood? They're most likely driving beam pattern right? Long and narrow? I wouldn't suggest putting fogs up high like that, fogs are better down low. I know it looks weird, but I would try them on the cross bar first and then just experiment.

yeah. driving, euro beam or spot beam works good up top. fog works ok, but the pattern is wide and short, there isnt any benifit to them being higher.
definately keep them back a little, or they can glare off of the hood depending on the light.

/\ yea fogs work better when they are lower. I used to have light on my roof and grille guard (on my durango)
I personally liked the top lights closer to the front. it did cause a glare almost towards the top of the windshield but didn't effect how they lit everything up.
oh, here a pic of the same lights on our Jeep now.

When I wired up, I made the MISTAKE of putting them too far forward (and not leaving enough wire to move them back). When I turned them on I couldn't see a damn thing out the windshield.
Had to rip everything apart and redo it with the lights as far back as I could get them. They still light up the hood, but not the windshield which was the big thing.

I currently have 2 fogs on the front valance so i will be putting driving spot beams up top. I never even thought about glare from the hood! It still seems a long ways back for the stock cross beam but so be it I guess.
Thats a good lookin durango, would a light bar like that work on a 4runner...do they make them? Thanks guys!
