Roll bar for pickup

Are roll bars in pickup for show only? I want to fix long roll bars covering the whole length of the luggage area, which looks nicer to me. Should I order at local workshop?

it matters how you bolt it down. Some people use self tapping screws and they wont hold much, but my roll bar I used four 3/8'' bolts on each base on the fender wells and I welded a 1/2'' plate onto the base at the front and secured each base with two 1/2'' bolts and I rolled my truck a few months ago and it worked, cab was still crushed but I probably wouldnt be here if I didnt even have it. And btw I found the roll bar on craiglists for 50 bucks.

A real roll bar is tied into the frame.
A LIGHTBAR is mounted in the bed.
Doesn't matter if you plate the bed, youre still bolting the bar to a piece of 1/16th steel..
