Removing Muffler

Removing Muffler
I have some questions about removing the muffler on my 3rd gen 4runner. If I remove the muffler but leave the cat converter will it still allow enough back pressure? And I'm also confused why toyota's like back pressure. and if I do remove the muffler should I get a pipe to take it all the way out of underneath the truck? or just leave it where it is?

just leave it stock. no one likes hearing loud v6's and 4cyl fartcannons. a 3.0 with no muffler sounds like a fartcannon. these trucks need back pressure because if you dont have any, u will lose a lot of torque.

I drove my truck for a year stock, the muffler fell off at the pipe and I was like, sounds cool... Drove for three months, then the pipe fell off at the cat, I was like.. Cool.. Drove it another month, Cat fell off... drove 20 minutes like that and I wanted to die. I welded on a 4' piece of 2.25" pipe and bought a cheap turbo muffler... I guess you could take the muffler off, but dumped exhausts suck.

Alright so they like a bit of back pressure...I plan on expanding to 2.25 from the little y back. I'm eliminating the cat and have a cheep 2.25 in and out muffler and I'll follow with the same out the back. Anyone see any issues with this. I also plan on putting the O2 sensor in the same place it is now.

i wouldnt if you have smog testing in your area. just leave the cat alone if it still works. ive noticed that removing the cat doesnt make the vehicle much louder. removing the muffler does big time but thats in a v8 truck. but even with no muffler, yotas arent that loud, just annoying to hear.
