Quick help: c-clip
Hey night owls. Need some quick advice. Need to install c-clips to new upper BJs. These are Light Racing so the C-clip goes beneath the steering knuckle on a first gen Taco, and falls off when I fail...much to my amusement.
Any sure-fire trick?? I'm tired. Help

Just want to add that I am so pissed at you SPC. Your "Light Racing" c-clip sucks. Would it have killed you to put ears on it?! I took the whole kit apart and put it back together in under an hour and then spent two and a half hours wrestling with your PITA c-clips which fit on a very shallow lip (what? 1/4 the width of the clip?), (again) has no ears or other means to secure it, AND is affixed to the bottom of the the stud socket thing, making it fall off constantly.
Good freaking god.
Edit: sorry for yelling at you SPC. It's as much my fault as yours. But that said, but some damn ears on your c-clips. A fella needs something to work with!

Without knowing just what you were trying but having an idea .
I am not sure if even the correct tool for those clips would have worked.
One never seems to have the correct snap ring or c clip pliers.
My problem is they don`t fall but go flying and are never seen again.
Funny how what should be the easy part causes the most frustration !!!

It's almost always the easy part!
I'm not even sure how I got the c-clips on. Pliers, a giant screw driver, and a sledge hammer were involved, but it's all a blur in my memory.
Well, I got everything put together. Now wrestling with the camber--actually all alignment specs are pretty wonky now, which is a fun little surprise.
Sidenote/short rant: I've now taken apart every aspect of first gen Taco suspension as well as a few other components, and IMO, the early trucks are just better made. Kind of disappointed to see so many finicky parts. But, whatever. I'll make it work!

C-clips in that application aren't set directly from your pliers like say those on a CV half-shaft end.
Instead you use your pliers to open the clip and get it close to the slot. Then using a hammer and brass punch tap in to the slot. This is meant to be a tight fit.
