questions about gears and locker

new to toyotas and i was wondering what rigs would have come with lower gears. if any did. around 4.56 or 4.88. i got an 87 22r 5 speed pickup with 4.10's and and it just doesnt push the 33's or the 32's i just put on it very well. its alright in town in 1st to 3rd but i have a 15 minute highway drive to get in town and 4th is only good down hills and straight aways. need to gear down for hills even small ones and cant use 5th at all lol. anyways since i bought it i found alot of cheap parts rigs trucks and runners all different years and was wondering if any of them would have lower gears. if so what years and models would? also my buddy left a locker here a guy gave him for his 93 v-6 5 speed but sold the truck. would this work in my 87? how would i tell what kind of locker it is or if it even is a locker?its attached to a 3rd and sitting in my garage getting rusty cause the roof leaked on it. will the rust affect it at all?

you can run the 4.56 or the 4.88 from 89-95 pickup or 4 runner..

the 4.56 comes from the 5 speed manual with factory 31" tire package.

the 4.88's come from the automatic with factory 31" tire package.

also i dont think that locker will work for you..

take a picture and post it.. then we'll be able to tell..

if its from a V6 i might be interested in buying it from you... pm me if you are interested in selling it..

i'll take a picture of the locker tomorow but i'm not sure how to post them. i tried to post a pic of my truck to find out about the lift in another post and it didnt work. the locker still belongs to my buddy who moved out west so if it would work for me i was gonna get in touch with him see if he would sell it since its just sitting there getting rusty. if it wont work i will find out how much he wants. he also knows nothing about it the guy that put the lift in his truck had it sitting around and gave it to him for taking so long doing the lift. never told him what it was out of or anything.

yeah... you dont need the locker unless you're going to WHEEL. (sell it to me cheap)
your truck probably has 4.10 gears, and if your tires are bigger than 31", you'll be over-geared and sluggish. But, what do we expect? That poor little 22re that has 250,000 miles on it is probably putting out a whopping 85hp at 4000 rpm!
IF you gotta run bigger tires, you gotta gear down... 4.56 matches 33" tires... and tires bigger than that (35-37") will require some lifting and cutting... and 4.88 gears or lower.
Soon, you have twice as much money in your truck as its intrinsic value!! But, that's what this is all about.... so while you're at it, put in a new engine, you will pull a higher gear.

If you start with the stock 31/4.56 combo for the 5 speed, you get

4.88 for 33's
5.29 = 35
5.71 = 37+

yeah i got a photobucket account just sometimes cant get on it because i'm on dial up out here. it actually only has around 50 000 kms on the new motor. either way its getting lockers front and back eventually weather i can use the one here or not. we stuck my buddys 35's on the truck just to see if they fit and they did. it wouldnt flex well but could always trim. i'll think i'll stick with the 32's anyway and even if i regear i dont think i will go bigger than 33's just to save the front end lol.

Grab a set of 4.88 gears from a 92-95 pickup or 4runner with a v6, auto and 31" tires from the factory.

You will have to either change your pinion flange or re-drill it

That's an elocker, and your missing some parts to it. You can run it in your 87, just have to modify the housing to fit it in.

Your missing the sensor for it being locked, the actual motor, and the shift rail.

Easies way would be to use a downey cable or hand pull elocker actuator for it.

Obviously, you will need a ring and pinion too ... and A LOT of cleanup - looks like it's been sitting outside for a long time!

it was in the cab of my buddies truck he parked at his sisters when he went out west. her and her b/f got in a fight he went outside took it out on the truck. made a mess of the truck smashed all the windows dented most of the panels. she never bothered to cover the windows so all the rain and snow got in it. i dont think i'm gonna bother with it if i have to modify the housing and its missing pieces, but thanks for the help.
