Question about 97 4runner

I have a chance to buy a 97 4 runner limited rear axle really cheap. The guy seems to think this model has the electronic locker. Do they come with an electronic locker, and how would I tell? He told me there is an etc button on the inside but to my understanding thats not a locker is it? Would it work on an 81 pickup with a 22r? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The diff will have a big elocker motor on it if it's an elocker. Some '96-00 4Runners came with elockers, but most did not. The ECT button is to change the shift intervals on an auto tranny - nothing to do with an elocker. The elocker switch (if it has one) would be to the left of the steering wheel on the dash. I believe the diff can be swapped to an older pickup, but the axle would be too wide and it's also set up for coils - the pickups are leafs.
