Propane vs gasoline?

Since gas prices are heading though the roof, I was thinking about (if possible) converting my vehicle to propane. Havn't done much research on it, or even on price diferences if propane if cheaper "per gal" burned, considering miles per gal etc. Does anyone have any thoughts on this matter?

I don't think they 100% convert your vehicle to propane, it just mixes the propane with normal gas. Someone correct me if I am wrong though.

it may be cheaper per mile - at least it was about 5 years ago, i don't know how prices are today. but in the end, i don't think you'll win when you factor in the cost of conversion plus the fact that you'll need a big tank because it's much less energy dense than gasoline.

I've often wondered the price difference between propane and gas??? Anyone with experience chime in. I'm considering a conversion for an off road only truck.

My dad had an old dodge pick-up like 25 years ago that ran on gasoline or propane. I remember the big propane tank in the back and the switch on the dash to change from one fuel to the other. I thought it was the coolest thing when I was a kid.
