powersteering conversion

so i have a 91 2wd with 22re... it doesn't have power steering, and i would like to convert it to it... i know i have to change the power steering gear.... witch i have found... i was just wondering if a pump off a 87 22r 4wd would work since i have a parts truck... if i look up the parts on auto zone or advance's website they list two different part numbers... but they look the same... i don't know if there is a minor difference in it that it doesn't matter or what.. and also if anything else i am going to have to swap... i know i still need the reservoir witch i was going to take from the 87. also i need hoses and and a belt witch the 87 will also donate to me... just wondering if anyone has done this before... thanks

Ya don't need no stinkin' power steerin'. Show that steering wheel who's boss, who's the one driving, you, or the truck?

Ok, seriously though, I haven't a clue about putting power steering in one of these trucks without it, mostly since I lack it myself and have no real desire to put it on. However, there's a fair number of differences between '91s and '87s, some of these changes are minor, some are not so minor, so without knowing any more about the subject I'm going to have to say that it could work, but it probably won't be easy.

everything should convert easily your innerfenders on the 2wd should be punched for a resi. and the motor will have the bolt holes for the pws pump the crank pully has the grove for the pws belt and the box its self will bolt right in place of the old it will work just fine

alot of power steering questions lately I noticed. Gonna do mine in the summer if I find the parts cheaper than $200-300. You will need crank pulley if yours doesn't have the extra grooves for A/C and P/S. Also need the gear box, pressure/return lines, reservoir which will bolt to the fender which should already be punched to accept it, the bracket for the pump which the cyl head and block will be pre-drilled already to bolt on, the pump itself, the tensioner and bracket assembly which will also be pre-drilled on the block/head. If you pull it all yourself make sure you grab all the hardware as well. ie all the nuts and bolts. And then buy yourself a new power steering belt from an autozone etc. Take photos before you pull anything. specifically the two bracket assemblies.

Like 85excab said everything is bolt on though.
