Oil pan problems

Here is the issue. I have an oil leak coming from the rear of the pan. I have tried to fix it using Permatex, but it is the biggest pain in the butt to put back together because I have to hold the oil baffle away from the block while I put the oil pickup tube in, without messing up the permatex on the baffle. I then have to put the pan and baffle together, without messing up any of the permatex til i get everything lined up, then put all the bolts in. THERE HAS GOT TO BE AN EASIER WAY.....RIGHT?

Btw, it is not the rear main, as I replaced that and the valve cover gaskets about 1 month ago and the leak is still there.

Is there somewhere else it could be leaking from that would cause it to look like it is leaking from the back of the oil pan.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Try a new oil pan gasket. RTV has its place, but its usually not all that great as a gasket especially when a gasket is available.

Here we go again.

BUMP. I asked the guys at Toyota and they said that they use Toyota black on the oil pans. I'm gonna try that unless someone comes up with a better idea. Thanks.

Yeah after '84 (I think) the oil pans are meant to use silocone gasket maker, rather than a gasket. Let me know what you come up with! My rebuilt 22R leaks in the same spot. I've re-rtv'd it twice now, but the very back keeps leaking. Was just a drip here & there but now I'm getting a decent oil spot in my garage, so it's time to try again.
