no brakes!
Hey guys whats up? A friend of mine put engine oil in his brake fluid on a 91 4runner,4wd, v6. WE changed the master cylinder, wheel cylinder, calipers, pads and shoes. At the same time, we noticed a leak in the powers steering pump. WE went ahead and changed it. I have been trying and trying to bleed to system now, but i think there is still air, or i am not doing something right. I have never bleed a M/C, how long does it take to get pressure? Do you have to pump and bleed for a long time? I at some point I had pressure in the valve thats on top of the rear axel, but no more. Is changing the power steering pump related at all with us not being able to get pressure in the brake lines? My friend is helping me with the bleeding, should i get one of those bleeding tools? thanks guys!!
P.S. i have bleed brakes in the past, and my father was a mechanic for 30 years, so i grew up around cars, i just havent worked with toyota that much, not sure if i was missing something, thanks for all your help

When you bleed, remember that you have to hold the pedal down while you close the bleeder valve at each wheel. Past that, bleed from closest to farthest (driver's front, passenger front, driver's rear, passenger rear).

Oil in the brake reservoir.... that's a new one
Do you have any leaks anywhere that is letting air in? It shouldn't take too long to get enough air out to at least have some pedal. Good luck with that one...

brakes, please help working now!!!!
Hey guys whats up? Happy new Years! 91 4runner v6,4wd,rear wheel ABS,A/T. So we changed the M/C, wheel cylinders, calipers, shoes, and pads and POWER STEERING pump all at the same time. We now have a little pressure on the valve on top of the rear axel, and a little pressure on the calipers. the brake pedal is soft. WE bleed the M/C before installing it. WE are not getting fluid to the rear wheels. PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Did you bench bleed the master before installing it, if not air can get trapped in the end because of the way it slants upwards.
Also if you have rear ABS then there is a special tool for bleeding the power steering system. The ABS uses pressure from the power steering system to activate. I don't know exactly how it all works but it could have something to do with no brake pressure.

Why did you start another thread? For the purposes of continuity and later helping others when they search, it's REALLY important to keep all the information in one spot...
